Hollywood Came to Cameron

Michael Douglas, Lee Purcell and Joe Don Baker were the stars of a Hollywood film produced by Steve McQueen's Solar Productions.

Adam at 6 A.M. was filmed on the streets of Cameron and other nearby locations in the summer and fall of 1969 and released in 1970.

Adam at 6 A.M.
Michael, Lee and Joe Don were very early in their acting careers in 1969.  Each of them along with many of the supporting cast members have become household names since.  Cameron was fortunate to be selected as the story's location and host to the cast and crew while they filmed here.

During shooting in Cameron, many local folks were used as extras in the film.  Easily recognizable locations all over downtown were the backdrop for the characters and their thought provoking storyline.

2015 will mark the 45th anniversary of the film's release and for the past few years our researchers have been gathering photos, videos, stories and artifacts from the film.  This coming spring an "Adam at 6 A.M. exhibit will be added to the collection at the Depot Museum.  Until then our research continues.

Our research team has reviewed the film's shooting locations and put together a "Then and Now" type photo presentation that will be included in the exhibit.  On the right is a sample of a few of the frames captured from the film and what the locations looked like recently.  Roll over the image and use the play button or the navigation buttons to see a comparison from then and now.

If you or someone you know has pictures, stories or artifacts related to ADAM's visit to Cameron we'd love to hear from you.  Click on the contacts page or email any of the members.
