Lathrop receives historic film footage The Cameron Historical Society presented the City of Lathrop with historic film footage of their town dating back to 1939. The footage captured a Lathrop citywide Celebration from 75 years ago and it includes a mock shootout, covered wagons, mule teams and people dressed in 19th century clothing. The 16mm silent movie film was taken in 1939 by Gene Hills, a long time member of the Cameron Hunting and fishing club. The film eventually made it into the hands of Dr. Larry Graham of Cameron with the condition that it be made available to the community. Dr. Graham and the Cameron Historical Society arranged to have the old film restored and put onto a DVD for presentation to the City Of Lathrop. Michele Wells and Virginia Rhodes of the Cameron Historical Society and Depot Museum made the presentation to Mayor Gene Schoonover at the beginning of Lathrop’s regular City Council Meeting. This and other area film footage taken by Mr. Hills could soon be included in new exhibits that will be setup in the Depot Museum at the corner of 2nd and Walnut streets in Cameron. |
